Beauty is a currency I'd like to get me some I tried to buy it but they called my bluff Cause it's Not that way for me No it's not that way for me Dealt out the tarot cards and read my palm I called my lifeline and the number's wrong Cause it's Not that way for me No it's not that way for me I don't mind if we're killing time Just need to find my fun I don't mind if what's yours ain't mine Just like to get enough I prayed to Buddha and I gave him drugs Went for salvation but he looked and shrugged Cause it's Not that way for me No it's not that way for me They tried to lift me up it wouldn't take I'm just a match stick looking to catch a break Cause it's Not that way for me No it's not that way for me I don't mind if we're killing time Just need to find my fun I don't mind if what's yours ain't mine Just like to get enough Not x7 Not That Way for Me I thought my ship had come in finally I got onboard and it sank at sea Cause it's Not that way for me No it's not that way for me Not x7 Not That Way for Me I don't mind if we're killing time Just need to find my fun I don't mind if what's yours ain't mine Just like to get enough

Old Man Will 02:08
1:45 the night is alive Time to see Old Man Will Voice like a chainsaw Left down a short hall Time to see Old Man Will Head up the stairs Everybody was there Time to see Old Man Will Cartoon sheets As a door make it complete Time to see Old Man Will Even though the product Wasn't quite top shelf It would keep you company While you were by yourself The Wizard was quicker We all chased our liquor Time to see Old Man Will Vinyl as platters Go straight up the ladder Time to see Old Man Will He'd fill up your ear As you wait with your gear Time to see Old Man Will If it's what baby lacks To the bathroom and fast Time to see Old Man Will Even though the product Wasn't quite top shelf It would keep you company While you were by yourself Puerto Rico, the Midwest Buzz the door, hope for the best Nothing great but nonetheless Sun was up when we all left Customers and conversations Always some weird situation Drop a 20, easy score Always kept you wanting more The short straw won We all had our fun When we saw Old Man Will We planned to leave soon As we’d wait in his room When we saw Old Man Will One more for the road Get home and unfold When we saw Old Man Will Retired at last With a baseball bat Goodbye Old Man Will

It's so quiet when it rains We're staying up til the dawn In love with you and the moon After the money is gone You & me always x4 Car ride up winding roads Windows down in the night Never seen the city this clear We almost gave up the fight You & me always x4 No I never gave it a second thought The queen and jester of Camelot No I never gave it another look Tear the pages out of the book You & me always x4 Another drink and a headful of songs I can't believe all that we have The damage is getting undone I almost forgot that I'm sad You & me always x4 5 am when everything starts The streets are awake but we're not One eye on my fragile heart We all know it's all I've got You & me always x4

She has a busy mind and you’ll quickly see She’s often stuck in traffic in the passenger’s seat It’s harder to unwind on a busy street So I’ve never judged her by the company she keeps She’s waiting on the war to come Reliving battles she has already won Waiting on the past to change But needs a little help to come out of the rain She needs a little help to come out of the rain She wants to be carefree and light as air But when she walks the people stare She won’t believe me that what she is is enough To feel so incomplete is so damn tough She’s thinking that she has her shot Reliving battles she has already lost Thinking that she’ll change her name Cause if she starts over it’ll go her way If she starts over it’ll go her way She has a busy mind It won’t turn off She has a busy mind Can’t make it stop

There are warnings I won't heed I want to scratch it til it bleeds They may say I've had enough Don't you know my skin is tough I am under the moon x3 And over you I find answers in the dark You’re the prey and I'm the shark I fill my head with barbed wire fence Make sure you never make a dent I am under the moon x3 And over you To your credit you won't stop Another drug that I can't cop Ignore the monster when it feeds All this denial comes with ease I am under the moon x3 And over you

Wedding Gown 02:53
You let me down like a wedding gown Found out you were running around Threw you out and lost my mind Now you take up all my time You let me down like a wedding gown I can't be bought I can't be sold You'll never do this again I'll come for you You'll never know When I'm not your friend You filled my head full of lies you told I built a fire with your fingers and toes I'll come around and acquiesce And then you will not suspect I dug a secret six foot hole I can't be bought I can't be sold You'll never do this again I'll come for you You'll never know When it's going to end In my car trunk gagged and bound My alibi says I'm out of town I'm careful now to burn the ropes Just like you burned all my hopes The cops ask questions but you'll never be found You let me down like a wedding gown

Vincent & Me 03:40
Stuck in the Netherlands with a stolen Van Gogh and I got no place to be Can't go home cause they shut down the borders so I guess it's Vincent and me Police are coming round but they can't check here cause I don't know where I am Seemed like a good idea at the time that night in Amsterdam Vincent & Me x2 Under a starry night Vincent & Me Vincent & Me x2 We do what we like Vincent & Me The ear, the ear, always talk about the ear but he was much more than that What about the time he married that girl who made money on her back He never sold a painting but he never gave up so what's the lesson there? He also spent too much time in asylums under doctors care Now back to the story on the lamb in a quarry drunk without a clue And I'm staring at this painting like it's gonna talk back and tell me what to do But it sits in the passenger seat of my car looking like it's lost I thought I knew how much it was worth but misunderstood the cost Vincent & Me x2 Under a starry night Vincent & Me Vincent & Me x2 We do what we like Vincent & Me Apparently priceless works of art go missing all the time The lure of the steal is just too much too not attempt the crime Recovery rate of only 10% is a hard things to pass up My retirement plan still in my hand I hear the cops give up So I have new life in Valkenburg selling hash and weed It's not a bad take at the end of the day and the clientele's my speed I go home to my humble apartment here on the second floor Where a multi million dollar painting greets me at the door Vincent & Me x2 Under a starry night Vincent & Me Vincent & Me x2 We do what we like Vincent & Me

I can’t remember what I can’t remember from last night These mystery bruises remind me that something wasn’t right The weight on these shoulders Means I’m getting older I can’t remember what I can’t remember from last night That Sunday feeling You know it’s got me to my bones That Sunday feeling I know I got no place to go 5 o’clock shadow’s coming in earlier these days Friends telling stories talking about how they changed their ways The target is moving What was winning’s now losing 5 o’clock shadow’s coming in earlier these days That Sunday feeling You know it’s got me to my bones That Sunday feeling I know I got no place to go We always stood too close to the fire, pretending we just wanted warm You get used to the ash when you burn up your past, it’s just one more thing to ignore We always liked to preached to the choir, we all know that they don’t keep score But the evening will end when the next day begins, and you’re left there still wanting more The morning promise is disappears in neon lights With rules always shifting wll I disobey them out of spite Charisma of cool The genius of fools The morning promise is disappears in neon lights That Sunday feeling You know it’s got me to my bones That Sunday feeling I know I got no place to go

Submarine 03:00
Stuck down here in my submarine, I am I am following the same routine, Swearing that tomorrow I will come out clean, But then all this darkness kind of makes me mean Now the cracks are all showing I can hear the leaks Better blow off some steam before we go Now the cracks are showing I can feel the seams Better blow some steam before you know it we are gone All I see from my periscope, tells me What I need are the tools to cope On the surface they are looking down, at me Who is searching for some solid ground Now the engine is roaring I can hear the leaks Better blow off some steam before we go Now the engine is roaring I can feel the seams Better blow some steam before you know it we are gone Now my needs are thirsty they've been down here way to long Need a little rest and reason not the same old song Just like everything there is a catch, I am but a stranger to your silhouette, And if life's a gamble I will place that bet, Seems like all the answers are not what I meant Now the cracks are all showing I can hear the leaks Better blow off some steam before we go Now the cracks are showing I can feel the seams Better blow some steam before you know it we are gone

about

Wow what a couple of years! Is anybody else as exhausted as I am?

Well, I have been squirreled away making tons of music but not sharing a lot of it as times were too heavy. Things are loosening up and I’m proud to start releasing some of these songs.

First on the agenda is this record: PHOSPHOR BRONZE
10 songs, mostly acoustic-based but not entirely. Phosphor bronze are a style of acoustic guitar strings for those who don’t know. Out today exclusively on Bandcamp.

Here’s a bit of info on each song

1 Not That Way For Me
Trying for a Woody Guthrie type thing, outside of my comfort zone.

2 Old Man Will
An ode to a Dayton Ohio drug dealer and the characters you meet in that environment. RIP Will.

3 You & Me Always
I grew up on many different types of music but my mom and sisters’ 45 collection was mostly soft rock, '70s style. It’s always held a special place in my heart and this is my attempt at that sound… complete with major 7th chords.

4 She Has A Busy Mind
Honestly, like Paul Westerberg, I could be mostly happy just writing piano ballads. Here’s to all those lovely women with their busy minds.

5 Under The Moon
Indie Pop? Kind of? Never been afraid of twisting a phrase, in this case Over The Moon. Probably came about from listening to too much Mountain Goats.

6 Wedding Gown
Do you have to kill somebody to write a murder song/ballad? This genre has always been intriguing to me so I gave it a shot. Alas I am still murder free.

7 Send You Back To Hell
This could be whatever is occupying your brain that you wish would leave. For me, it was my undiagnosed OCD. I know the title makes one think it might be a downer but it's more hopeful than it seems.

8 Vincent & Me
One night I was writing some joke songs while hanging out with my wife, drinking may have been involved. Most went nowhere but this story song about a man stealing a Van Gogh hung around. On a side note, I really want to go back to Amsterdam.

9 That Sunday Feeling
Listen, I know Kris Kristofferson wrote the ultimate Sunday song, but that day of the week does have a special vibe, especially when hungover. There's a kind of clarity in hangovers, don't you think?

10 Submarine
And lastly this little Indie (pop?) style thing. Although written pre-pandemic, it became more relevant to that situation as lockdowns lingered on. Sometimes I stay inside for too long.
